Rhythm Core: Legs & Cardio is an hour-long group fitness class focused on cardio, endurance, balance, and flexibility training in the context of a judgment-free, welcoming environment. With an emphasis on breath awareness, rhythmic movement, and developing individually appropriate fitness goals, this class serves as a complement to my Body Core Fitness class on Sunday mornings, which focuses on functional strength building. Rhythm Core also works perfectly well as a standalone fitness class.
Rhythm Core is packed with dance-inspired, rhythmic exercises focused on cardiovascular training, balance, and flexibility. The legs, arms, and feet are the main focus but ultimately this class gets the whole body involved and moving.
The emphasis on rhythm helps us stay motivated and engaged so that we can let loose and have fun while supporting our overall health. It's about enjoying ourselves and keeping us moving, not about showing off dance skills.
This is not a dance class but rather a cardio fitness class with dancey vibes.
Diverse Bodies, Diverse Challenge Levels
We work on challenging ourselves in ways that acknowledge where are body is at today through the use of varied challenge levels that students self-select into.
We are not here to compare ourselves to others or to past versions of ourselves. Instead, we are committed to listening to our individual body's feedback about what it needs in the moment.
That is why modifications and a range of difficulty levels are provided throughout class to support diverse bodies and fitness backgrounds, allowing you to choose the intensity level most suited to your goals and needs.
We acknowledge that our bodies are dynamic and that our needs may change from week to week. That is why Rhythm Core is built around the creation of a mutually supportive environment based on a common understanding that everyone is doing their best for what they need for themselves in that moment.
Who is Rhythm Core Intended for?
Rhythm Core is a group fitness class for adults who are interested in a well-rounded cardiovascular workout focused on endurance, flexibility, balance, and having a good time. Rhythm Core is designed to challenge without being too intense. This class emphasizes building a sustainable fitness practice, which includes listening to our bodies, modifying exercises to support individual needs, and self-selecting exercise difficulty levels.
Both Rhythm Core and its complement class, Body Core, were developed to support a variety of fitness goals and backgrounds by providing a moderate intensity workout suited to those who are just getting back into a regular workout routine, those who are looking to cross-train, and those who are interested in a unique, well-rounded group fitness offering. These classes are designed as a proactively inclusive alternative to clique-ish fitness classes based around show-off exercise culture.
Ages: 17 and up.
Class Length & Attire
This class meets weekly for one hour. Clothing should be comfortable, non-obstructive, and support dynamic movement in all spatial planes.
Footwear requirement: clean-soled sneakers. We spend most of our time on our feet with some seated stretches toward the end of class.
